This is hard guys, having to choose my favorite local food took so much deliberation. As a manidnka by tribe, it was really difficult having to drop my delicious domoda, the mouth watery super kanja and admitting that C'est bon is my favorite Gambian dish. C'est bon is a Gambian sengelese local dish, it is basically the traditional Yassa with a bunch of seafood.
My culinarian mother introduced this mouth watery dish to my large mandinka family and to be honest she is the best at it, even though my sister is getting great at cooking it.
C'est bon is a french word meaning 'its good', I don't know how that name came about but it does describe the food. This dish is basically rice; our staple food, the most eaten food in most homes in The Gambia, marinated stir fry onions, well seasoned talapia fish which is fried and a bunch of seafood of your choice. The food is usually really sour and lemony, which I love, it is also served with "ranha bisaap" which is basically spinach and okra well blended with lemon, jumbo and a bit of Pepper.
The final product is literary the image above, the dish is served with lemons, sliced boiled eggs, a side of really lemony and sour onions mixed with different peppers. All three which are optional sides of the dish. Honestly I am already craving this. Yes I am a foodie, but you guys need to try this, really "its good".
Let me know if you have ever eaten this dish,
or is it familiar but not the same name? what do you call it? let me know.
And if you haven't tried it, I am hooking you up with the most palatable dish. Try it and let me know how c'est bon it is.
Ps- my sister cooked that ( referring to the image lol)
